(RE) THINKING CULTURE

In rejecting the notion of universality, we believe the tower should look deep into the cultural context of the region. Putting in the forefront is the very symbol of the Royal ascension and traditions reflected in the intricacies of the gold threaded ‘songket’ patterns on the external wall. Given the current trend of faceless and technology-driven facades of many towers, the delicate ‘songket’ motifs, together with the use of technology on vertical surfaces not only will reassert the relevance of culture in the 21st century but also defines its context. Cultural references in turn define a community and its people.
