FRAMING THE TROPICS

The model is a distilled representation of a detached house completed in early 2010. It explores the idea of framing the setting of a house located on sloping site in the tropics, by judiciously delineating and limiting the expansive view beyond: the sunlight, ground and tropical sky. By framing, the design includes some whilst excluding other ways of experiencing the physical context. The enclosure, created by the two organic shaped components, also becomes a secluded outdoor space. The curvilinear geometry which is derived from the existing contour line intensifies the sense of mystery of the frame.
