CONTEMPORARY ARCHITECTURE + TRADITION RE/MIXED

Balsa wood and perspex

The Chinese has the tradition of hanging a plaque with Chinese “clan” name on the front door. In this project, the Chinese character of the family name, “ ”(Zhang) is an abstract expression of the front facade of a rather modernist contemporary bungalow, designed to accommodate the extended families of the “Zhang” clan. The traditional family name is thus integrally RE/MIXED into the architecture, giving it a character that is distinctive yet meaningful.
